X-Carve started shipping early - TODAY!

I have researched and experienced something here with Inventables WELL worth the wait. A great product and fantastic service and followup. Contrary to any posts you have seen about timing, the Inventables team has been spot on with their timing and even shipped 1 week early to thier scheduled roll out date. What happened is they were swamped with orders even more than they forecasted. With all that they have kept up within a day of their projections and have been transparent with their responses. I predict they will get back ahead of the curve very soon too. In the end what little time and $ displaced waiting will be pennies compared to the potential you can achieve with the X Carve. Do you have your projects designed and created yet? You could be designing and creating the toolpaths and files while you wait. Best wishes

i’m going to have to take out a loan for materials by the time mine gets here LOL super excited. can’t wait. got to build the shop this weekend. lots to do excitement building every day!

I have been playing with Easel for a couple months now and have also been working with Cut2d as well. And thanks for the replys everyone just really need it to ship soon so i can assemble it and get my projects out to my customers. On a side note if orders keep going like they are now i may have to purchase a second machine to keep up.

I only hope to have that same problem Andrew!

My wife and I are setting up an Etsy shop…don’t have orders because we don’t have any pieces,…but man I’d like to get this running and get production going. Losing my job in ~3 months…hoping getting something up can supplement income until I get a regular job again.

Hi Paul,

I am the former owner of a piranha. There, I said it. first step, 11 to go. Oh wait that’s another support group…

I put my machine up for sale once I found out that the x-carve was coming out.

Biggest reasons, in no particular order.

  1. Open source architecture. You want to make a modification? go for it.they even encourage it.

  2. got a question or have an issue? they respond and work with you to resolve it. Check out the shark talk forum and see how many shark owners have difficulty getting in touch with the company and are in need of replacement control boards, are blowing machine fuses for no apparent reason and software updates that are so buggy that calling Orkin looks like a possible remedy.

  3. System interface. even though they say it will run dirctly off of a PC , the Piranha only runs off of a thumb or flash drive. all machine movements are done through the pendant touch screen I found it to be quite annoying and inaccurate. when the system is running you dont get much for visual feed back other than how many lines were sent and the percentage of the job run.

  4. overall value per square inch. pirahna 12 x 13 work area at 1600.00 plus the router, bits, and other accesories. X-carve 31 x 31 (approx) 1300.00 or so including a spindle. You can do the math on that one.

I found out real fast that I wanted to work on things that were too large for the Piranha. This is one area that you will need to decide for yourself if it would be a fit for you.

5.carve into your wasteboard? And you probably will, most do at one time or another,.
Piranha, contact rockler or nextwave and order some of that specialty aluminum extrusion bed surface. Xcarve- hit the lumber yard or get in touch with Inventables.

I could go on but I think you get the highlights. if you are going into production you may find yourself very limited rather quickly, and if the thing goes down you may be challenged to get it back up and running in a timely matter, that is IF you can figure out what went wrong. With the X-carve, if you assemble it most likely you can diagnose and fix it yourself.

The pirahna is a decently constructed machine but i tihnk it really is lacking in some areas.
Only you can decide what is right for your situation, I hope I have given you some insight into what the piranha really is.

Thanks JK for the response. I know i want the X-carve and its the right machine just in a time crunch right now and need a machine up and running. Also with the prospect of maybe having to have 2 of them it just puts another one out that much further. I know inventables is doing all they can to ship but it just bothers me that when i spoke to customer service before i ordered they said the last week of may it would ship and thats next week and i dont see that time line happening. Sorry for sounding frustrated just have a lot to do and running out of time.

Hi @paulkinlaw I’m Zach the CEO of Inventables. I’ve authorized overtime every day until we catch up and ship all the orders. We are also brining on new people every day to make the process go faster. Our rate of shipping should be increasing with more people and overtime.

In addition maybe there is someone on the forum that isn’t in such a time crunch and is willing to swap spots with you so you can get yours shipped earlier.

Hey Zach and thank you for your reply and i really appreciate everything your company is doing and i will be spending alot of money with you in the future. I understand you and your team are doing everything they can to get these out asap, was just a little disappointed that at the current rate it will not hit the date that was projected to me. With that said, i still look forward to getting mine but i cant ask anyone, and would not want to ask, to give up their spot in line for me as im pretty sure most everyone else has lots to do as well. Again thank you for your email and i look forward to the day i receive my shipping email.

Thank you

Hey . . . I am also one of your . . . . orders in waiting . . . . and while i also am waiting in full knowledge everything is being done to fulfill the backlog . . . . .

I ordered on May 4th . . . . and my reciept says . . . . as does your website . . . to this day. . . . a possible delay of 3-4 weeks.

while my three weeks starts next monday . . . . and 7 days later . . . seeing the 4 week period . . . i am just wondering . . . if this is still your time frame . . . . . as I am seeing orders well before mine . . . . yet to be even close to being shipped.

I am not complaining about any possible delay . . . . . just asking for a rough idea of . . . . we have this many orders we are currently working our hardest to ship . . . . and we are striving for this many a day . . . . so . . . we can do our own calculations to estimate . . . . . . but know the time frames are not guaranteed . . . .

based on my last guestimates . . . … . . i am looking well past june 15th . . . . . . . WAY past my 4 weeks . . . and that kinda messes up my plans for a birthday gift . . . . the 3-4 weeks was perfect . . . . allowed me to put together and test . . . .

just hoping for an honest timeline of your current backlog vs rate of shipping . . . .

thanks

The 3-4 weeks was from the day you ordered. We’ll put together an updated timeline with dates for orders not outlined on the first timeline today.

So far we are on track to the first timeline published.

Sorry for the confusion.

I’m taking a vacation once mine gets in and running. And maybe a loan for material lol

Ordered on 4/4 and got my shipping notice around 11:00am pacific today (5/21).

Hopefully it doesn’t make it to California before Monday so I don’t have to fight the urge to assemble it when I should be celebrating my wife’s birthday

I am scheduled to report for Jury Duty on Tuesday. With any luck it will be canceled and I will be able to just skip work to play with my new toy

I have never waited so long and been so excited about a single product. Here is hoping I can figure out how to build all the cool things things I have building up in my head for the last couple of months.

Mr. Kaplan,
I received my machine today. Surprisingly UPS did nice job delivering boxes in 2 business days.
Your team deserves congratulations for such a perfect packaging for shipping.
And of course big thanks goes to founder.

So the 4/4 and 4/6 orders went out today, so we seem to be a few days behind.

I ordered 4/17, so I am thinking I may have my order at the end of the month. Not only did I build a table for my X-Carve, but I bought a new house with a proper workshop instead of my small ‘workshed’

It’s hard to say they are behind - the weeks’s not over yet. The schedule says that orders placed by April7 should ship the week of May 18. This is the week of May 18. They are up to 4/6, and have all day tomorrow to finish up 4/6 and 4/7.

Joe,

Point taken. However, I was not complaining. I am happy that even if they are behind a few days, that they are so transparent with the process. I am very happy and I am pleased I relinquished my spot in line for the Shapeoko 3 to order the X-Carve instead.
