Hi, I originally bought a Shapeoko from Inventables, then upgraded to the original X-Carve, then X-controller, then linear bearings/screw drive on all axis, Makita Router… you get the picture. I have stayed with the original small footprint because the goal was to carve Aluminum parts. In the last 6 months all of a sudden the Y-Axis has started to walk in the minus Y direction during the carve. It does not seem to be a problem when carving wood, and my settings have worked for many years carving Aluminum. It happened after around 20 minutes of carving. Initially I solved the problem by chopping the projects into smaller bits and reindexing every time. But now it is happening at around 10 minutes. It especially happens in a very complex carve.
My Y axis is moving freely, under power. My guess is that one of my twin Y-Axis Stepper motors is failing. Anybody have any ideas?
