what is the best bit för cutting pocket
downcut or upcut bit ?
It all depends on what the pocket is going to be for.
An upcut bit will have a tendency to tear up the edge of the pocket.
A downcut bit will give you a clean edge because it is cutting down instead of up.
However a downcut bit will also have a tendency for the cuttings go into the pocket as opposed to the upcut bit will have a tendency to lift the cuttings up and out of the pocket.
thx.
so you say it preferable to use downcut ?
depending on the material you are cutting. Downcut is generally used for wood
Collin
It´s Mahogany wood
I would use a downcut bit as the upcut tends to tear the edge of wood.
