Twitching while making rounds

Hello carvers,

I’ve had my X-carve for a few years now, and aside from a few learning curves with feed rates, and carving into my clamps (haha), I’ve had little problems with it. I’ve actually only broken 2 bits in all that time.

That said, I’m making these bezels that I listed on the projects page, and they are a series of full 360 degree radius cuts, 100% designed in Easel. I could understand if this happened in a Live Trace or something that I imported in, but since all the shapes derived from Easel, I did not expect to have these problems.

What I’ve noticed recently is a glitch or twitch when the cutter is making its laps around the radius. First, just one little one that never really showed up in the carve, but now two at different points in the round, and my last piece ended up being complete trash.

Is there a known problem with the X-carve doing perfect circles? It’s definitely not the material it is cutting, this is in the machine itself.

Thank you for any tips.

Can you please show photos of the issue?
Were the 2 glitches 180 degrees apart?

Hi Mark, I can’t really show a picture of this…but I can show you the easel file it is working to…
This is a simple bezel design for some lights I’m doing, that I’ve posted in the projects page. Roughly 6" Diameter. It’s worth noting that I did a project this weekend that had 1" rounds, and did not have any problems. So this exists in larger circles. Also, very odd behavior, but a majority of the time, the XC carves in a clockwise motion for these rounds, but for some reason with these bezels, it will switch up and do a few laps in CW, then a few laps in CCW, then back to CW.

My settings for this carve are:
FR: 60
PR: 20
DepthPerPass: .06

Fill Method is Offset.
Plunge is 5 degrees.

Material is Peruvian Walnut.
Bit is 1/4 shank Carbide Tip Upcut 2 Flute
