Dear Paul J Kitt, The Inventables site has some excellent videos on assembling an X-Carve. One piece of prep that I did not know up front, one needs to make a super stiff support for the machine - to have any hope that it will deliver the specified performance. I made one from scratch from two sheets of 1/2-in ply with a pseudo honey comb glued and nailed from both sides. The other aspect that requires attention - lubrication. The user manual states the machine comes with sufficient lubrication for about a month of use. I suggest lubricating your machine at the first opportunity. Inventables requires you use their grease. The are sold out of the grease gun. McMaster-Carr sells a recommended replacement. After I cleaned the tracks and lubricated the machine, it works much better. Good luck.

That is spot-on advice about building a stiff support base—it prevents machine flex and makes a massive difference in carving precision.

Once you have the table built and the tracks lubricated, you will want to look into user-friendly CAM software to convert your designs into G-code. If you need a reliable toolpath generator without a steep learning curve, I highly recommend checking out MeshCAM Pro to get your projects started. Good luck with the build!
