I want to carve a name on this music stand tray. If I set x,y on the lower left hand corner the bit will crash into the molding which is 5/8" above the carving surface. The tray is 6.75" wide. Could just say the tray is 4" wide and set the x,y set in from the corner.
Just find the center and zero it from there if everything will be inside the molding.

You could also set your safety height at .7"
But in this case Wayne’s idea is the easiest.
Just remember to have the center of your design at 0,0
I do the same as what Wayne said. I set to 0, 0 and center on the piece., It has not failed me yet.
