X-Carve Workspace Showcase

How much did the final build come to for you? I really like how it turned out. Thinking of doing one similar.

Are you asking for the price of materials I used to build the workstation?

Just an update on my workbench. Updated electronics a bit. And larger monitor.

Nice

It took me a minute to figure out what I was seeing on the walls then it dawned on me that that is one of those plastic sheds you can buy at the big box hardware stores.

good idea if you have limited space for your machine.

It looks like the walls in the Alien movies on LV-426!

Mine cost me about $60 to make. You spent $400. Time is money

My soundproof enclosure is just about done. Now I can have a CNC in my apartment.

Very Nice

The lighting looks great! Good job!

Are one of the tubes in the back for dust collection?

Yes, they’re both vacuum ports. One is used for fresh air intake and the other is used for dust collection / laser fumes.

Nice.

I like the use of the terminal strips within the enclosure and this presumably leads to elcetronics somewhere “out of the box”.

But there appears to be alot more wiring than is used on a standard x-carve, is this because of the non standard spindle, laser connections, both, neither?

I AM SO CONFUSED! (didn’t take much…)

I was wondering if there are any plans available for your great workspace?

I have not finished the plans, and I am not sure i am going to be able to … new baby, work, and other projects have taken over my time. I do have an igs file of the 3D model and part of the plans i can send you. Shoot me you email address and i will send them your way.

Most of the extra wiring is for things like the laser, spindle, webcams, chip evacuation system, along with lighting and some additional electronics. The wiring pathway is sealed with noiseproof caulking, so I wanted to make sure I ran more than enough wire for future upgrades.

Here is my workspace.

Managed to pick up the desk for $1.50 second hand on trademe(Local eBay like auction site). Really nice and solid desk. So really really happy with it.

The enclosure is made out of foam board which is awesome stuff its light but really strong. The front(not shown) can be taken off and put back just by sliding it into the slots which help to seal the box so that not waste material is thrown onto the floor.

And incase your wondering about the wire going to the roof. This is for a Logitech web camera so I can see what is going on inside the box while sitting next to it.

Really happy results.

Cool layout - love the nibbler light up sign as a nice touch  I am curious about your wasteboard. Interested in the pattern, can you speak to that more?
