Uneven Depth Issues and Alarms/Errors

Hello X-Carve Team,

I am getting uneven depth carving and when I look in my settings I see these errors:

alarm - ALARM:8

Are these errors and alarms telling me myZ axis is off?

Grbl ALARM 8:
Homing fail | Homing fail. Pull off travel failed to clear limit switch. Try increasing pull-off setting or check wiring.

This is indicating that the homing cycle failed due to the pull off not being enough to un-trigger a limit switch. You can increase the pull-off distance be editing grbl setting $27

However that is unrelated to an uneven depth issue. an issue of uneven depth is usually caused by the top of the workpiece not being parallel to the cnc movement.

You can try this test to kinda probe and measure the variance from parallel and either surface the workpiece on the CNC or shim it into near parallel…
