Thoughts on Stiffening mod

I noticed I was having some carve issues and thinking it may be to the noticeable flex in the X gantry. So I decided to give the stiffing mod a try. I cut my steel bar and slipped it between the X rails. OMG did that make a huge difference! The spindle straightened up immediately. I clamped it in place and tightened the X gantry screws down. Surprisingly that seems to be enough to keep it in place. I left a clamp on (clear of the work envelope) until I can drill and bolt it properly. But it go…

A 30 minute x-axis mod to reduce chatter

I love this idea and I have been ready to upgrade to a Dewalt 611 but this mod had been putting me off of the upgrade for lack of drill press and I was about to buy one of them as well to be sure the holes were done right. If this works just as well then it will save me a big headache of tearing the machine apart and potentially screwing it up. Thanks! I wish they would sell a reinforced axis now that the standard spindle is the 611.

It appears they are both very easy and can be installed after assembly.
