Cut depth question

I have a project where I am needing to carve a name. I need to cut it in the bottom of a tray. The tray is .5" deep. I want my letters to be .25" deep. How do I set up my machine to do that? So basically if the top of my project is “0” I want my 30 degree bit to start cutting at .5" down which would make the bottom of the letters at .75". I hope this make sense. Thanks for any help

Can you just set Z-zero at the bottom inside of the tray?
