Another difference between Desktop and Pro is the Offset and Layout tools, Desktop does not have the nesting and plate production options.
Nesting was important for me because I buy a lot of toy projects from makeCNC.com and nesting in VCarve helps to make the best use of the material…

Do yourself a favor and just download the program. I’ve had VCarve Pro since Version 4 and now when you Download, Install and Verify your download. Vectric will send you an email that’ll allow you entry into their User Support Portal where a Copy of your Registered Username and License are kept. You can also download all additional files necessary to complete your installation as well as Instructional Videos.
I’d need to post a clarification/correction and say we actually sell the hard copy CD version but in certain situations we have been able to accommodate customer requests for the download code through Vectric. We are exploring the possibility of offering a download only option.
I’m sorry about the confusion.
From other VCarve members that I’ve talked to in the past. Unless you get a copy of the software straight from Vectric. You’re not likely going to be able to get support through their User Support Portal. Please be aware that the Trial Software that you have all tried cannot be Initialized and should be deleted before a Licensed Copy is installed. Failure to do so will create problems within your VCarve Download Folder where new updates and program enhancements are saved.
Why wouldn’t you be able to get support from Vectric if you bought it through Inventables? That doesn’t make sense. They tell us they support their software but not the Inventables hardware.
My original purchase of VCarve Pro was from a seller other than Vectric themselves and whenever I reformatted my hard drives due to viruses or newer computer systems.I had to get Vectric to send me complete new copies of their software. But only after I could prove my earlier copies were legitimate. Others that I have spoken to on the VCarve Forum have had the same issue when purchased through other resellers. I’ve got nothing against the wonderful work that Inventables has created, but who’s to say that it will be around as long as Vectric has already been. My original copy VCarve Pro Version 4, 10 years ago was purchased from a company which at the time made Unipolar Breakout Boards which were all the rage because they could be powered by running two computer PSU in Series. Sadly now I have a $175 BOB that would work great in a 3D printer that I can’t find any specs for, now that I’ve lost the PDF.
We reached out to Vectric and have this additional information:
- As long as you’ve registered your license, you can download the software from your account page on the Vectric website.
- Inventables is an official distributor of Vectric products, you will have full access to Vectric’s user support.
- If you don’t have access to an optical drive, you can send a photograph of the back of the DVD packaging to support@vectric.com, and they will setup an account for you.
- As long as you keep the disc packaging you should have no problems in the future.
- Unfortunately, there is no download option available from Vectric at the time of purchase.
The only scenario in which buying the software from Inventables could be different than buying it from Vectric directly is if you:
- Buy the disc from Inventables, AND
- Never register it (note that you can’t use the software without registering the license), AND
- You lose the license code, AND
- Inventables goes out of business.
