The extra holes I believe are for second terminal. I have seen picture of the end plate somewhere with 2x 5-size terminals installed one vertical and one horizontal. I believe the intent was the have the right side reverse motor to be spliced there at some point.
Angus, I highly doubt you’ll get any good bits out of aluminum… 
It took me a minute to work out what that bracket was with all the bolts in it. It must be the cold weather slowing the brain down.

Well, one could use a self-leveling solution which will harden, say in connected pockets on the table which match the feet, then repeat that and pour it onto the wasteboard — I’ve actually considered using that as a coating on top of my wasteboard, and to periodically refresh it.
That looks pretty much perfect to me. I doubt mine is anywhere near that perfect and a get pretty good results.

Not sure “level” is what matters. Planer is what you need.
As long as the surface is flat it’s angle to gravity shouldn’t matter.

Use a ball bearing.
If you have a long enough level or perfectly straight board, go across the front and back, both sides, then both diagonals. Use the first measurement from each set to zero out the Wixey, and see what the reading is on the second. That’ll give you a nice relative level in all 3 dimensions.
Your 0.1° measurement is right on the limit of the Wixey’s resolution (0.1°) and accuracy (0.2°).
Any ‘inaccuracies’ are probably down to the the 178 layers of finish you’ve applied.

Holy crap, that’s impressive! I’m scared to try it on mine, I never did it before putting the X-Carve on my cart and I remember how much of a pain it was to lock the damn thing down to the cart table. Just the thought of trying to chase a t-nut with a .005" shim makes me want to drink.

I could never get anything that level. Wouldn’t even try. Don’t you have to be level for it too even matter? Yeah, that’s not going to work.

Leveling is not the issue. Squaring is. As long as
(a) your Z is square to your X
(b) your X is square to your Y
© you face mill your waste/spoil-board
you are good to go regardless of the orientation of your XY plane.
